Galaxies are made up of gas, dust, and billions of stars and have different shapes
3 Main Types of Galaxies
Spiral GalaxiesSpiral galaxies include a center of bright stars and two or more spiral arms.
|
Elliptical GalaxiesElliptical galaxies look like spherical or flattened disks.
|
Irregular GalaxiesIrregular galaxies have no definite shape.

How Many Galaxies Are in the Universe?
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable Universe.
- Scientists have counted the galaxies in a small region of space, and multiplied this number to try and estimate the total number of galaxies in the whole Universe.
This short video shows you the small image of 10,000 galaxies taken by the Hubble telescope.
Each galaxy is shown in this video is composed on billions of stars and solar systems like our own!!
