Assistive technology is any device, software, or equipment that helps people work around their challenges. The following are some basic tools that can be immediately used to help support students for free.
Reading Support
By adding the Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader Google Chrome Extension to a students computer they will be able to convert web pages, documents, pdfs and more to a human-like voice. This text-to-speech extension will read either the entire page or just the text that students select. In addition to the normal options to adjust the speed, pitch, and volume of the voice, the best feature is the wide collection of high-quality voices to choose from when the Text to speech that brings productivity extension is enabled.

Writing Support
By adding the Voice to Text Google Chrome Extension to a students Google Chrome web-browser students will be able to speak into a microphone on their computer, and the program will translate those spoken words into text. In order to work with this extension, simply open the extension and then press on the big microphone icon to start converting your voice to text. When the add-on is first started, it asks for microphone permission. Simply accept the permission to start working with the extension. All the captured text is placed in the top text-area within the extension. Students can then copy the text and paste it into any document or application.

From grammar and spelling to style and tone, Grammarly helps students eliminate writing errors and find the perfect words to express themselves. Students will get suggestions from Grammarly as you write nearly everywhere find yourself writing online. Grammarly is a writing assistant that goes deeper than grammar to offer students comprehensive writing feedback. Students can be confident that their writing is not only correct, but clear and concise, too. Be sure to register your account to receive a personalized writing report each week to help you track your progress and identify improvement areas.

Listening/Auditory Support
By adding the Playback Rate Controller Google Chrome Extension to a students Google Chrome web-browser they will be able to change video or audio playback rate over the speed with which their web-browser plays audio or video HTML5 media when the Playback Rate Controller extension is enabled. Teachers will be provided audio and video lectures on Youtube that students would then be able to change the playback rate according to their needs as they have full control over the speed when the Playback Rate Controller extension is enabled and watch the videos as much as needed.
